Winter Time in Yonezawa

The extreme amount of snow made for sights that Audrey and I had never witnessed before growing up and living in the warm southeastern US.  The mountains and other landscape around Yonezawa added even more to the beauty.  Even with all the snow, daily life continued on in Yonezawa.  Below and on the next couple of pages I will give you a taste of Winter Time in Yonezawa.

This was taken on a road going through the middle of a rice field in the outskirts of Yonezawa.

Back in town, clearing the snow is a constant task.  The store behind the snow plow belongs to our landlord.

Here is a cold Audrey standing on our street.  The street is normally a little more than two lanes wide but when the snow starts piling up, streets get narrower and narrower!

Not to mention the sidewalks which become trenches!

This is the cool little one-man machine which makes the sidewalk trenches.  It has a rotating snow blower blade on the front and blows snow off to the side.

I'm not ducking the camera, the snow is almost as high as me!

Our landlord's garage looks like someone frosted it like a cake.

You cannot leave your car in one place for very long without cleaning the snow off or this is what will happen to it!!!

Morning sunshine refracts through the icicle on the house next door.

That same icicle grew a lot!  People shoveling snow off of their roofs is a common sight during the winter.  You have to shovel the snow off or the roofs will collapse under the weight of the snow.
