Snow Monkeys!

Believe it or not, Snow Monkeys are native to Japan and are quite common where we live!  We have seen them many times in the mountains around Yonezawa.  The monkeys we have seen are very shy but others which live around cities and are used to people can be pretty aggressive!  The snow monkeys travel in packs or families with old and young alike.  The younger ones run and play just like human kids.  Most of the monkey's fur is light brownish but the true "snow" monkeys have white fur and are pretty rare.

A monkey checks out the road to see if the coast is clear.

You can see by the tracks that monkeys were going both ways on this road.

Lots of the monkeys I saw this day were chasing each other through the trees and causing snow to go everywhere.
