Contrasting to the Chinese temples in Macau are the Christian churches.  This is the ruins of St. Paul's church.  The church was built in 1602 but was destroyed by fire in 1835.  The remaining facade of carved stone was built from 1620-27 by Japanese Christian exiles and local craftsmen under the direction of Italian Carlo Spinola.
