Kawanakajima is the civil war battle reenactment that is performed each Golden Week in Yonezawa. The people who take part in the battle are mostly from Yonezawa but even some foreigners take part! The Kawanakajima reenactment depicts one of the five fierce battles fought between Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin, two feudal lords of the sixteenth century from this area.
