| Tasmania is one of the few places where opium poppies are grown legally. It is one of Tasmania's biggest cash crops. The opium is used to make prescription drugs. As we headed back to Hobart we saw one of the opium poppy fields which is shown in this picture as the flowery field in the distance. The driver told us that the fields are constantly being watch by the authorities and anyone caught even close to the fields (other than the farmers) will be almost instantly confronted. |
